Graphein is a work entirely made of pencils and paper sounds. It was at first conceived for an audio-visual project with Delphine Depres (where she did images only with.. pencils and paper, see http://delphinedepres.net/graphein-_-meteoros-v-III ). The basic idea was to explore a material and its sonic capabilities. The idea was to dig into the object (in that case pencils) and transform its sonic properties (as a raw material) into a poetic version of it. The basic idea tends to be something...

Once again, we are proud to receive and host the work by David J Fonseca in our digital catalogue. December 2013 was the last time Cello + Laptop played live. That happened down Las Ramblas in Barcelona at Eufonic Urbà Festival. Since then an awkward silence expanded till today. In between a certain amount of live recordings, studio sessions and infinite mixes wait in line as orphans the endless hesitancy. During this long period those files have become a burden, witnesses of the absence of bearing of a project apparently way to easy to re-write. Those files were unresolved issues, segments...

Often musicians in the realm of free improvisation talk about intuition. This comes in hand with uncertainty, a feeling of stepping into the unknown, into the dark (or light?). When I asked Adrià Bofarull to write some notes on “fireworks” I came across a wide variety of forms of intuition and tons of unknown, a set of random thoughts that, all together, made sense. Reading the notes, one realize that Bofarull is building a complex scaffolding system to keep away the feeling of getting...

In Audiotalaia we are always glad to receive new projects from new artists. This time we have the honor of hosting the work by Santiago Merinoâs debut as Reverse Projection. Ceniza its an EP that points out the interests of this artists. Through dense atmospheres splattered by complex sound objects, Merino builds a story that talks about spaces, and times. It seems that inside Ceniza you can find many rooms, open spaces and dark corridors. All compositions had a special room tone that makes us...

Almost one year ago I met for the first time Juan Antonio Nieto. He came with his wife Almudena to perform in Valencia at La Clínica Mundana. I didnât have so much clues about his work. By that time I had rushed to hear his bast oeuvre and I couldnât get a grasp of what he would perform on this tiny space in Valencia. His concert arrived and it was a surprise, a blast of energy and a continuous flow of different ambiences, textures, drones and energy, pure sound energy floating over the...

Jean Ray is the sound project of pluridisciplinary artist Romain Arnette, based in Paris and initially formed in London in 2009. Experimentation is at the heart of his creative process. He uses different instruments such as guitar, harmonica, percussions, also fields recordings to create a bank of textures and sounds that he transforms and manipulates. The superposition of these fragments combined with electronic sound sources and some software such as pool creates minimalist compositions, an...

Here we are already in 2014 and with the pleasure of releasing one of those new projects that we always love to host in our digital catalogue, this is the work by young artist Lucas Bolaño, from Madrid, presenting “Anagrama Amarga”.  This is his first album since “Vietnam Raw” a wonderful work based on field recordings gathered as the title points in Vietnam. That was presentation letter at Sound-In event a few months ago. Impressed by the freshness of the proposal we asked him to...

We are proud to host the first online release by Regina Burbach, a german sound artist based in Bremen. Burbach presents a two-track album full of field recordings and foley materials. Both pieces presented can be heard as a soundscape collage from different locations, sites and places. The two compositions are a very good example of the way Burbach understands as soundscape composition and its usage as musical material. Field recordings are combined with music, sound effects, voice and a...

Esta pieza, que continúa la exploración utilizada en obras anteriores, se basa en la selección de proporciones diferentes a las de la escala temperada occidental. En este caso, se trata de intervalos que pertenecen a los sistemas 7-limit, 11-limit o 13-limit.

To hear a Oriol Rosell release is a tough call, lets get that clear and move on to other considerations. After assuming that Rosellâs work is indeed something that requires more than a simple listening we should ask ourselves what is he trying to achieve and why. Reading the liner notes on Ulrich Seidl EP at Crónica Electronica we can get a clear idea on Rosellâs intentions and aims. Basically Rosell seeks for a sonic experience based on time and perception and the relationship between...

Its more or less easy to find sonic structures, textures, resonances or harmonics that âmight workâ while investigating on a sound experimental framework. Almost anyone, tweaking a few knobs and using the right or wrong tools, can achieve a palette, a rainbow of possibilities and certain capacity to deliver very interesting sounds. I guess that there is just need of some intuition, enthusiasm and knowing your tools. But then, when it comes the time of composing sounds, things get a bit...

Víctor Trescolí is one of those rare musicians one encounters in live that has the ability and humbleness of being able to drift, enjoy, make and compose in a wide variety of musical styles. As he always states in conversations "I love all kinds of music". That statement could be something rather simplistic but in fact it just underlines his understanding of music and curiosity for all forms of it, regardless of styles, schools or genres. But not only that is unique from Victor...

Audiotalaia is really proud of presenting the work of Alex Alarcón aka Sustainer. We are happy to host a small part of the extensive oeuvre done by this artist from Barcelona. For this 30th release on Audiotalaia we have a two pieces EP keeping the essence of sustainer's project. There is a topic, a concept a theme and there is a kindness composing all those sustained lines of drones that had become a trade mark for Alex Alarcón. A few years ago Alarcón recorded a wall piano.
